HOW TO MAKE A DTF GANG SHEET

How to Make a Gang Sheet — Beginner's Guide (UK 2026)

By DO IT DTF · Updated 13 June 2026 · 7 min read

Quick answer: A gang sheet is a single 100cm × 56cm DTF transfer sheet with many designs packed onto it. You build one by uploading your designs to an online builder, sizing each one, packing them tight, and ordering the sheet for next-day delivery. The whole process takes under 5 minutes.

This guide is for absolute beginners — what a gang sheet is, when you'd use one, how to design for it, and how to actually make one without any technical skills.

What is a gang sheet?

A gang sheet is a single 100cm × 56cm DTF transfer sheet that contains many designs printed together on one continuous sheet. You receive it as a printed roll, cut out each design with scissors, then heat-press each one onto a garment.

"Ganging" comes from print industry slang — packing multiple jobs onto one sheet to save material and printing cost. In DTF, gang sheets are how small UK brands and Etsy sellers print custom apparel affordably: one sheet costs less than ordering 20 individual designs separately.

Why use a gang sheet instead of single transfers?

  • Cost: A 100cm × 56cm sheet costs £17.95 (1m) or £6.95/m at bulk volumes. That's £0.20-£0.40 per small design versus £1-£3 for individual transfers.
  • Variety: Mix designs, sizes, and colours on one sheet. Test 10 new designs without committing to 10 separate orders.
  • Speed: One order, one delivery, dispatched same-day before 3pm. No tracking 10 different parcels.
  • Bulk discounts: Combined cart pricing — order 5 metres across designs and pay the 5m bulk rate, not 5× the single-metre rate.

Preparing your designs

Before opening the builder, get your design files ready:

  • Format: Transparent PNG is the gold standard. We also accept JPG, WebP, SVG, PSD, AI, EPS, PDF.
  • Resolution: 300 DPI minimum. The builder warns you if anything is too small to print clearly.
  • Background: Must be transparent. Any white background will print as solid white on dark garments — usually not what you want.
  • Colour profile: RGB is fine, our printer converts to CMYK with white underbase automatically.
  • No bleed needed: Designs print exactly to their edges — no need to add bleed margins.

If your design has a white background you need to remove, free tools like remove.bg or Photoshop's Magic Wand make it a 30-second job. Inside our gang sheet builder, you can also remove backgrounds with one click using built-in AI tools.

What size should each design be?

This is the question every first-time gang sheet buyer asks. Here's a starting guide:

Print location Adult width Kids width
Left-chest logo 8-10cm 6-8cm
Full t-shirt front 25-28cm 18-22cm
Full t-shirt back 28-32cm 20-24cm
Hoodie front centre 22-25cm 16-20cm
Hoodie back full 28-32cm 20-24cm
Sleeve down arm 5-7cm wide × any length 4-5cm wide
Pocket / breast 6-8cm 5-6cm
Hat / cap front 5-7cm —
Tote bag centre 20-25cm —

When in doubt: measure a similar print on a t-shirt you already own. That's the most accurate guide.

Step-by-step: building your sheet

Step 1 — Open the builder

Head to our gang sheet builder. The canvas opens at 100cm × 56cm — that's one metre.

Step 2 — Upload your designs

Click "Upload Images" (top left). Select all your designs at once — the builder accepts batch uploads. You'll see each design appear in the left sidebar.

Step 3 — Drag designs onto the canvas

Drag from the sidebar to the canvas. Each design lands at its native dimensions — you'll resize next.

Step 4 — Size each design

Click a design. Use the corner handles to resize (hold Shift to keep aspect ratio locked), or enter exact dimensions in the right-side panel (cm).

Step 5 — Duplicate as needed

If you need 12 of the same logo, click the design once, then click "Duplicate" — repeat or use the AI's auto-multiply feature to fill empty space with copies.

Step 6 — Auto-pack the sheet

Click "Auto Pack" in the top toolbar. The AI rearranges everything to maximise yield — fitting 30-40% more designs than manual packing in most cases.

Step 7 — Add more metres if needed

If your designs overflow one metre, click "Add Metre" to extend the sheet. Bulk discounts auto-apply.

Step 8 — Add to cart and checkout

Save & Add to Cart. Order before 3pm UK time for same-day dispatch — you'll have it tomorrow.

Packing efficiency — fitting more designs

The difference between a tight-packed sheet and a loosely arranged one is 30-40% more designs per metre. That's real money over time. Tips:

  • Rotate freely. Designs don't have to face upright on the sheet — you cut them out anyway. Rotating 90° often unlocks tight fits.
  • Mix sizes. Big designs leave gaps that small designs fill perfectly. Put big designs first, then drop small ones into the holes.
  • Use Auto Pack. Our AI runs the maxrects algorithm — tested better than any manual arrangement. Just click and let it do the maths.
  • Mind the margin. Leave 0.5cm between designs minimum so you have room to cut without nicking neighbours.
  • Don't waste edges. Long sleeve designs (5-7cm × 30cm) are perfect edge-fillers along the outside of the sheet.

Common mistakes to avoid

Mistake #1: Designs with white backgrounds

A PNG saved with a white background will print white — you'll get a white box around your design on dark garments. Always export with transparency.

Mistake #2: Sizing too small

Designs that look right on screen at 100% zoom usually print smaller than expected. When in doubt, go 1-2cm bigger than you think.

Mistake #3: Low-res files

A 600 × 600px logo looks fine on Instagram but prints fuzzy at 10cm wide. Aim for 1500+ pixels along the longest edge for crisp output.

Mistake #4: Too much detail at small sizes

Fine lines under 1mm thick won't print cleanly. Thin fonts at 6cm wide become illegible. Test with our free sample pack before committing to a big run.

Mistake #5: Ignoring the AI Auto-Pack

Manual packing wastes 30%+ of the sheet on average. Auto-pack costs nothing and runs in 2 seconds.

FAQ

What is a DTF gang sheet?

A DTF gang sheet is a single 100cm × 56cm transfer sheet that contains many designs packed together, ready to cut and press onto garments. Instead of ordering one design at a time, you fit as many designs as possible on one sheet.

How many designs can fit on one gang sheet?

15-30 small logos (8-10cm), 12-20 medium designs (15-20cm), or 6-12 full t-shirt fronts (25-28cm). Our AI auto-pack typically fits 30-40% more designs than manual packing.

What file format do I need?

Transparent PNG at 300 DPI is best. We also accept JPG, JPEG, WebP, SVG, PSD, AI, EPS, PDF.

Do I need design software?

No. You only need software to create the individual designs (Canva, Photoshop, Procreate, etc.). The gang sheet layout is built in our online builder.

How much does a gang sheet cost?

£17.95 for 1 metre. Bulk discounts apply: 35% off at 2m, scaling to 60% off at 40m+.
